What Is Coffee? - National Coffee Association (#)
„It also has the advantage of being able to withstand warmer climates, preferring constant temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees, which enables it to grow at far lower altitudes than arabica. It requires about 60 inches of rainfall a year and cannot withstand a frost. Compared with arabica, robusta beans produce a coffee which has a distinctive taste and about 50-60% more caffeine. Robusta is primarily used in blends and for instant coffees.“

„Whereas robusta coffee can be grown between sea-level and about 800 metres, arabica does best at higher altitudes and is often grown in hilly areas. As altitude relates to temperature, arabica can be grown at lower levels further from the Equator, until limited by frost. All coffee needs good drainage, but it can grow on soils of different depths, pH and mineral content, given suitable applications of fertilizer.“

„As the name indicates, this tree can withstand harsher temperatures and conditions than most. Considered by the trade to be less flavorful and aromatic than Arabica, it is widely used in instant and less expensive coffees. It produces a cup with twice the amount of caffeine of Arabica and is high in acidity. No Robustas are grown in Colombia.“

„Arabica coffee is grown at altitudes over 2,000 (usually 4,000-6,000) feet above sea level and is typically harvested by hand when the cherries are perfectly ripe. Robusta has continued its share in the market due to its disease resistance and ability to grow below 2,000 feet. Robusta beans are inferior to Arabica beans in flavor, and they are often used in inexpensive instant coffee blends. Robusta coffee has almost twice the caffeine of Arabica coffee. Italians often will use a very small amount of Robusta coffee to increase crema and to tone down the acidity of the Arabica coffees.“
