We've Seen the Future and It's...Capresso? ()

„The Elegance Therm coffee maker takes advantage of a relatively new trend in coffee makers: a Thermos-type container as a way to keep coffee warm without scalding it. Coffee is brewed directly into a double-insulated thermal carafe which can be removed after the brewing process, keeping the coffee warm for several hours. A digital clock, 24-hour programming and drip-stop feature are all part of the package, as are water filtration cartridges which remove a substantial amount of chlorine and greatly enhance flavor.“

Capresso has some great coffee makers out there - this is not one of them. It starts out as a great coffee maker with an attractive design and easy-to-use features. Then, only a few months later, it starts to leak - or the interior of the carafe explodes - or it gargles and sputters so loudly when it is at the end of the brew cycle even after using a decalcifier - or all of that occurs!“

„Also see if you can test the machine's heat ability in store (or if the store has a good return policy, take it home to try out). You can do this by sticking a needle therm in the brew basket as it fills with hot water (grounds will slow down the flow), but that isn't a very accurate way of telling. Take a calibrated digital thermal reader measuring device (or find some engineering geek who will lend you one) and do proper temperature tests.“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Machines and Grinders, Why is the 'THERMOBLOC' so despised by many GEEKS CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Machines and Grinders, Why is the 'THERMOBLOC' so despised by many GEEKS

„Usually marketed by Krups, Capresso, Delonghi and other companies, Thermoblocks are technically espresso machines (in that they are pump driven), but the heating element inside is, for the most part, inadequate for the rather complex task of producing espresso and steamed milk. The thermoblocks are akin to a car radiator - water is flash heated as it passes through. They tend to give under extracted shots because the piping inside the thermoblock leeches away your high pressure. Steam power and longevity is also questionable because of the lack of adequate airspace to build up steam pressure.“
