Virtual Coffee: Feature Articles ()

„A conventional coffee is not "farm-identified." The designation may describe bean size (e.g. Mexican Altura), but conventional coffees are always processed and purchased in bulk. Suppliers of these coffees, such as processors who mill or export coffee, are hard-pressed to provide specific growing information on the harvesting or labor conditions. Price is the primary variable, although these coffees are priced at a premium compared to commercial coffees.“

„It is a very effective solvent at the high pressures. When the coffee beans are exposed to the solvent, the caffeine migrates to the solvent. When the removal of caffeine is complete, the now caffeine-rich carbon dioxide is passed through either an activated charcoal bed or a bath of water to absorb the caffeine for re-use. Like other chemical methods, the Supercritical Carbon Dioxide method removes 96 - 98% of the caffeine.“

Coffee: Old Familiar Becomes New Favorite Coffee: Old Familiar Becomes New Favorite

„In coffee, the caffeine content depends both on the type of bean and on the roasting and brewing process. Beans harvested from the "robusta" species are typically found in common name brands like Folgers and Maxwell House. As the name implies, this plant is robust; it will grow in marginal or unpredictable conditions, and this means lower production costs. Beans from the arabica plant require more pampering but produce a more full-bodied flavor.“
