„With passing generations, the Japanese tea ceremony, known as chanoyo, became a more elaborate tribute to tea and established itself as an important component of Japanese culture. But unlike many other forms of serving tea that focus mostly on the drink itself, this ritual is really about the ceremonyeverything that leads up to the brewed tea. The objective is to purify the senses and cultivate harmony and unity between the surroundings, the people, the utensils, the tea, and anything else involved in the ceremony,“

„O-cha is one of the most popular beverages in Japan. O-cha is Japanese tea, also referred to as green tea. Green tea has long been associated with Japanese people but it is said that the drink actually came from China about 1200 years ago (cha is ‘tea’ in Chinese, and Japanese added the honorific prefix ‘o’). Tea drinking didn't become popular until the 12th century when the upper class people began to enjoy maccha, a high quality powdered green tea.“

„Oh, and I shouldn't forget about Genmai-cha. I think it is the most unique tea of all Japanese teas. Genmai-cha means "(roasted) brown rice tea." This blend originated with Japanese peasants who would stretch their precious supply of tea by blending it with roasted rice in an era when tea was still a barely affordable luxury. Don't you feel like having a cup of Japanese o-cha?“

„Japanese companies have bid very heavily in all of the previous Cup of Excellence auctions even though it means staying on line at night and well into the early morning hours.” Four United States companies bought five of the Cup of Excellence lots. Two importers, Knutsen Coffees, San Francisco and Atlantic Coffee, New York as well as Coffee Tree Roasters, Pittsburgh and Diedrich Coffee, Irvine, CA. were the fortunate highest bidders.“
