View topic - My fair trade beans experience - Coffee Forum (#)
„Starting with a very good smooth blend from Guatamala. This was my first experience with fairtrade, the sticks and non-coffee materials I found in the bag where to say the least distastful, but the coffee it made tasted as if it had an air of presence and style in my mouth. This was purchased through a friend and I hardly take into consideration when buying super market fair trade beans.“

„Spilling the Beans shows that little of the ‘benefits’ from coffee production actually go to coffee producers, with most of the profit going to the traders in the North, while the costs fall in the main on the producers. The journey from farm to supermarket shelves is long and tortuous, with a succession of people along the way taking their cut – paper transactions on international commodities markets account for much of this. While it is estimated that the world coffee trade generates $60 bn in revenues, double the amount in the 1980s, producing countries retain just over 10 per cent of this, compared with 30 per cent in the 1980s.“

„I was wondering if anybody has found any great FairTrade, Organic or ShadeGrown blends? I've been using Sweet Maria's Italian and Monkey blends but would like to do some good with my purchases if possible? I'd been looking into it for awhile and after seen the last article in here I think it would be (as Martha "Jailbird" Stewart would say) "A good thing"!“

„For restaurants which like to grind their own, Fairtrade coffee is available as beans with grind 'n' serve equipment. Some freeze-dried instant coffees are also available.“

„The espresso coffee, which can be used in all Costa coffee drinks, is made from high quality beans produced in Mexico, Peru, Cameroon and Tanzania. The subsequent higher payments that the coffee growers will receive are particularly welcome at present given the climate of falling world coffee prices (see News in brief ).“
