„There is not such a thing as a true general espresso blend... for instance I have seen espresso's roasted from very light, to very dark. The blend itself can be variable. In many parts of Europe the blend is almost entirely robusta, while in the states, Australia and Asia it can be anywhere from a high % of robusta to an Arabica rich blend.“

„Espresso is simply a blend of coffee beans based on the blender's taste; the blend at one store will differ from one down the street. Although the blends often contain dark roasted coffee, they also might contain other beans to balance and round out flavors.“

„The bean designated for an espresso is roasted just slightly longer than regular coffee beans so that the rich oils in the coffee are brought to the surface the bean. It is a surprise to most people to learn that this dark roast contains less caffeine than lighter roasts because the espresso process, hot water passing swiftly through ground coffee, leaves more caffeine in the grounds and less in your demitasse.“

„Green, unroasted, coffee beans generally cost half the price of what you would pay for the same kind of bean roasted. If you are an avid coffee drinker, you can really save money by roasting your own. Furthermore, unlike homebrewing kits or bread machines, you don't have to make a large equipment investment.“

„A Shot in the Dark is a nice little drink. It's your normal brewed coffee (hopefully made with premium, fresh roasted, fresh ground beans) with a double espresso shot added for good measure. It's pretty straightforward, but not many people know about this wonder booster. It is also known as a Depth Charge, though I refuse to call it that - a depth charge to me is a tequila shot dropped in a pint of beer!“

„For example, we've worked to understand the science of freshness -discovering that newly roasted beans have flavour characteristics of their own. Or unearthing the compounds responsible for making stale coffee taste, well, stale.“
