Vacuum Coffee Brewers - Cona - Yama - Bodum Santos ()

„Because the filter on these brewers is a single nylon mesh screen, and a fine grind will result in too muchsediment in the cup. A manual vacuum brewer does not use a nylon filter, and by any of the 3 filter methods (Cona Glass Rod, cloth filter, of Bodum plastic filter)all manual brewers result in a much cleaner cup than the electric models. In our cupping tests, there was another problem: consistently poor cup performance whencupped against the exact same coffee prepared in a French Press. We believe that the problem was that, in making a safer method, the brew temperature might notbe reaching the ideal 200-205 degree temperature.“

Matching the right grind to your brewing time Matching the right grind to your brewing time

„Let's say you use a coarse grind of coffee in a filter-drip brewer with a short (2-4 minute) brewing cycle. With a coarse grind's larger particle size, the resulting brew will be weak and tasteless as very little of the coffee's true flavor has been extracted by the brew water. On the other hand, using a fine grind in a coffee brewer with a longer (4-6 minute) brewing cycle can result in bitter tasting coffee.“

„On a day to day basis, the group enjoy fresh coffee brewed in a Newco OCS-8 thermal carafe semi-commercial brewer. We grind all of our coffees in the lab with a Solis Maestro Coffee grinder, the one grinder we consider to be the most valuable for the home coffee lover, whether espresso, cappuccino or drip coffee is the final destination.“

„Never got my espresso stuff yet. So far the moka brewer has been a bit bitter but I think it could be pretty sweet. The grind and portion seems to be as crucial as in espresso since I have not gotten it right yet.“

„In general, grind coffee as fine as you can without clogging the holes of the brewer or turning the coffee to mud. The finer the grind, the more contact there will be between coffee and hot water, and the faster and more thoroughly the essential oils will be released, without activating harsher, less-soluble chemicals.“

„Fresh beans are key - and keep them whole until just before you want to brew. Don't pregrind - grind only seconds before you pull your espresso shot.“
