„Let the ibrik sit about 30 seconds so some of the grinds will settle. Then pour yourself as much of the coffee as you want, dividing the rest (if there is any) among your luck guests. Don’t pour out the last drop since the bottom of the ibrik will be sludge.“

„Constantinople (now Istanbul) quickly acquired such a great thirst that Turkish law permitted a wife to divorce her husband for failing to keep the family ibrik, or pot, filled. Suing on such grounds should be easy these days. Never able to grow its own coffee, Turkey can no longer afford to import it from abroad.“

„The ibrik was originally designed to brew coffee in hot sand in the desert, but a stove top will do fine. First fill the ibrik 2/3 full with water, add sugar to taste (if you like your Turkish coffee sweet) and top it with a heaping teaspoon of finely ground coffee. The coffee seals the narrowtop creating an oven effect. As the water begins to boil it will foam up through the coffee.“

„I had so many varieties of coffee, I was amazed that something I knew as Nescafe my whole life could be so tasty, so diverse and so intense. Sharing an ibrik of coffee with Turkish friends was an experience of a lifetime. Sharing espressos with people from all five continents was life changing. Sharing little doppios with people who didn't speak any language I spoke was thrilling.“

„Find a coffee you like the smell of. I'd recommend first grinding it very fine (espresso or Turkish), then make it using a manual drip cone and pour the water in all at once (with finely ground coffee, if you don't pour it in all at once, it will clog the filter). Use 4 tablespoons of grounds and 8 - 12 ounces of water.“
