TransFair Canada: Certification TransFair Canada: Certification

„In contrast to Codes of Conduct and other social labels, FLO’s Fair Trade Certified standards are not simply a set of minimum standards for socially responsible production and trade. Fair Trade Certified standards go further: in addition to the minimum requirements that producers must meet, FLO standards guarantee a fair price, and, through process requirements, sees that the producer-run organizations invest part of the Fair Trade premiums in economic, environmental and social development. The producers and their organizations must therefore operate both transparently and democratically and are obliged to make quarterly reports to FLO. Certification of producers hinges on meeting all the FLO standards for which they are audited.“

In Canada, the “Licensees” (processors) are licensed and audited by TransFair Canada to ensure that they are doing business with certified producers and that they are adhering to the standards set out by FLO. TransFair also works to promote Fair Trade Certified products at the retail and consumer level.“

TransFair Canada: The Impact of Fair Trade in Guatémala TransFair Canada: The Impact of Fair Trade in Guatémala

„In May 2003, at the second edition of the National Fair Trade Weeks in Canada, TransFair Canada and its partners had the pleasure of welcoming Rafael Terraza Raimundo, a coffee grower and member of the ASOBAGRI cooperative in Guatemala. ASOBAGRI is one of the rare cooperatives that sell 100% of its coffee on the fair trade market. In addition to being certified by FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organizations), the coffee from ASOBAGRI members is also certified organic. At various conferences and public meetings, Rafael delivered a stirring testimony about the impact that fair trade has had on the members of ASOBAGRI, their families and the entire community.“
