The group is keen for the idea to be imitated elsewhere, and won the backing of George Foulkes, who said that he hoped "the beacon that has started here in Garstang can spread like wildfire across the whole of the country." Campaigns have already started in the race to become the world’s second Fairtrade town.“

Further validation of Fairtrade growers’ work to improve the quality of their coffee was achieved when three Fairtrade registered producer groups made it to the final ten of the first Bolivian ‘Coffee Cupping’ competition. The Multiple Retailer of the Year ward went to the Co-op, partly due to their Fairtrade range. Terry Hudghton, Co-op marketing manager, said ‘Fairtrade was highlighted as something that caught the judges’ eye, and will inevitably catch the eye of other retailers and manufacturers as a result.’“
