The Man Behind Mars Bars Going FairTrade : TreeHugger
[TreeHugger] Since he joined Mars, the old hippy has changed his dress but not his beard or ethical outlook. As a result of his commitment, last June Mars announced it would "contribute $10m to a project to map the cacao tree genome and publish it for free to speed up the development of quicker-growing and more resilient varieties." Then the company "sponsored a major conference of NGOs and governments to develop a 30-year plan to encourage cocoa growers in Africa to plant different crops to restore nutrients to degraded soil and bring a year-round income."

The policy starts with the Galaxy bar and by 2020 will encompass not just Galaxy and Mars but also Snickers, Twix and M&Ms.
[PF - Feature Articles] Article: Confections and Snacks -- March 2009 - Feature Articles ...: Whole grain proved another trend to continue to watch over the year, as a number of snack companies were quick to mention its inclusion in their products: in Canada, RiceWorks Salsa Fresca Gourmet Brown Rice Crisps from Snack Alliance were made from whole-grain brown rice and contained no artificial flavors, additives, cholesterol, trans fat, wheat or gluten.

[Candy Blog] 100 Calorie Packs - How Lazy Are We? - Candy Blog: I have been saying for quite a while now that all these 100 calorie packs help people to lose is money. Cafes are therefore piled with books, plastered in Fair Trade produce and almost insistent that you linger longer over that coffee.
[Candy Blog] Reese's Eggs - Candy Blog: The combination in the mouth is nice, again, the salty hit and crumbly texture of the peanut butter blends well with the sweet and creamy milk chocolate. The chocolate shell feels just slightly oily to the touch, I’m not sure if it’s because some of the eggs seeped a bit of their peanut oil or they make them that way so they’ll come out of their molds .
