The Story of the Bialetti Moka Express (INeedCoffee.com) (#)
„Thus he combined modern technology with the Italian tradition for elegance and craftsmanship. The Stovetop Espresso machine was simple and compact, yet capable of making the power packed brew associated with the large espresso machine of the Espresso Bar. The express claim of Bialetti was that “without requiring any ability whatsoever” yet one could enjoy “in casa un espresso come al bar” (“An espresso in the home just like one in the bar.)“

„In 1933, Alfonso Bialetti fashioned and crafted the first Aluminum Stovetop espresso coffee maker. This coffee machine, The Moka Express, would find itself in 90% of all Italian homes (as well as in the Guinness Book of Records) thus changing the essence of Italian coffee culture.“

„I have owned a number of espresso machines (currently a Capresso C3000). I use the Bodum Espresso Pot when I am working away from home. My conclusion is that I wasted my money when buying the Capresso since this the Bodum Espresso Pot makes a perfectly good espresso with little fuss. The secret to any good cup of coffee is acquiring the appropriate coffee in the first place.“

„It's true, you can buy a $50 stovetop maker or even an electric one, and those make a decent cup of super-strong coffee, but it's not espresso. The real stuff -- the deep, rich brew that comes topped with a layer of "crema" even before any steamed milk is added -- requires pump-driven pressure. It also requires practice.“
