The Coffee Review - the world's leading coffee buying guide ()

„If your brewer does not have a mechanism for cutting off the flow of the coffee, you will need to improvise. If the design of the machine permits, use two separate coffee-collecting receptacles, one to catch the first rich dribbles, which you will drink, and a second to catch the pale remainder, which you will throw away. Whatever you do, don't spoil the first bloom of coffee by mixing it with the pale, bitter dregs.“

„If the clerk doesn't know what you're talking about, look for a small pipe, usually about 1/4 inch in diameter and a few inches long, protruding from the side or front of the device. Some beginner-friendly machines may replace the conventional wand with an automatic milk frother (it looks like a small plastic cylinder protruding from the front of the machine) that sucks cold milk into one end and squirts out hot frothed milk at the other. These devices may sound wonderful, but in fact are fussy, demanding, and delicate. I would recommend against buying any machine that does not give you the option of replacing the automatic frother with a conventional steam wand.“

CoffeeGeek - Cuisinart Brew Central - Steve Tock's Review CoffeeGeek - Cuisinart Brew Central - Steve Tock's Review

„Even though it had it's problems, my old KitchenAid brewer made a full 12 cups of flavorful coffee, and there were never any grounds in the water tank. The Cuisinart does make hot coffee, but it was very weak even with the gold filter. Using the KitchenAid I could make a fairly strong 10 cup pot using 12 scoops; using this same amount of coffee and water with the Cuisinart resulted in a very weak brew. I will not keep a brewer that takes more coffee to make a decent cup, instead I took the plunge and ordered the Technivorm Clubline.“

Product Review - Hand Frother (INeedCoffee.com) Product Review - Hand Frother (INeedCoffee.com)

„The ideal customer here is someone that likes a little froth, but doesn't want to deal with an espresso machine. I also learned that the frother on many cheaper espresso machines (those less than $100 US) may go bad rather quickly. Buying something like a FrothaMatic could save them from buying a new espresso machine. This product is perfect for those that like froth on non-espresso drinks such as Cafe Au Lait.“

„So where does all of this put us in regard to the relative merits of specialty can commercial coffees? About here, I think:1)The best specialty coffees, whether this cupping's Millstone Breakfast Blend or the superb Kenyas and Yirgacheffes in the March cupping, are both far more distinctive and far superior to the best of the canned coffees in this (or I suspect any other) cupping.2)On the other hand, canned commercial blends from the big food companies (and I don't include the Eight O'Clock Bean Coffee in this category) do offer one clear virtue: consistency and lack of dramatic fault. None of the canned coffees in the cupping display fermented notes like those found in, for example, this month's Trader Joe's Moka-Java blend, the April cupping's Java City Celebes, or a couple of the dry-processed Ethiopian coffees that we reported on in March. But, again, neither do the canned coffees deliver anything close to the power and intrigue of the best specialty selections.“

„I have always used filtered water, and decalcify the machine often, but the machine does seem much slower today than it was three years ago.“
