Teach A Fish To Make Espresso (INeedCoffee.com) ()

„The Salton made a gritty sludge that resembled the robusta swill served on Miami Beach. After that experience, I was convinced that I'd leave espresso to the cafes and just make regular coffee at home. However, Starbucks persisted. They captured my attention and pulled a few sample shots from the Barista espresso machine.“

The Coffee Review - the world's leading coffee buying guide

„The roast adds smoky, spicy notes at the edge of carbon. Lavazza is the leading supplier of coffee to Espresso bars and cafes in Italy. Many of Lavazza's bar blends contain limited quantities of robusta coffees. This blend, aimed at consumers, consists entirely of arabica coffees.“

„At any time of day or night at the countless little Cuban restaurants that dot Miami, people line up for "jolts" of café cubano served in thimble-sized paper cups. Cuban coffee is served at the end of a meal in tacitas that are smaller than demitasse cups. The old-fashioned way to make café cubano is in a pot on the stove, though the truth is that Cubans in this country make their coffee in Italian espresso makers.“

„To find a cappuccino. After being turned away from one cafe that shut at 4, another that was open, but they'd shut the cappuccino machine down, and walking past various other cafes with chairs on tables, I managed to find one. £2.25 for a large cappuccino. Safe at last.“

„The real problem: poor extraction and the dreaded "plugged" filter effect. This is where the coffee can't drain as fast as the hot water is entering the basket and as a result, hot coffee sludge comes pouring out of the basket sending grounds into the carafe and all over the counter top. It is a horrible experience indeed and one to be avoided at all costs.“

Home Espresso FAQ Home Espresso FAQ

„Fine Arabica coffees contain one half of the caffeine found naturally in the cheaper Robusta beans that are used in supermarket coffees. (Using Robustas in espresso blends is another controversy that tweaks the regulars around the newsgroups.)     The results of chemical analysis performed by Lauk's Testing Labs in Seattle were recently posted at the LucidCafe Web site by David Schomer. Check out these numbers:     Espresso Ristretto (18.5 grams of finely ground coffee, 1 3/4 fluid ozs) 230 milligrams of caffeine.     Paper Filtered, Cone drip brewed coffee (18.5 grams of Arabica coffee, about 16 fluid ozs) 340 milligrams of caffeine     Those are interesting numbers but I don't know anyone who makes a 16 oz pot using only 18.5 grams of ground coffee.“
