„The Kona Coffee Council, the local trade group representing farmers, said it “does not condone the civil action filed against the customers of Kona coffee because of this alleged fraud.” And, “The people responsible for the civil actions make up less than one percent of the people engaged in the coffee business in Kona and do not speak for the majority of the industry.” A press release put out by the council also said the civil actions are affecting the Big Island economy negatively and do nothing to promote Kona coffee or other coffee grown in the State of Hawaii. Celia Smith of Smith Farms in South Kona, a past president of The Kona Coffee Council, noted on another occasion that there were but 19 plaintiffs out of 600 Kona farmers. Some have said that the suit was driven more by Mark Davis, the plaintiff’s council, than by the convictions of the grower community. John Langenstein said that farmers were being pressured by processors whose economic interests were threatened by the suit to withhold support for the legal action taken by his group.“

„We have supplied people out in the ‘outback’ or deep in the hills somewhere that simply blows the chaff outside and doesn't even bother with a chaff collector. But, on the other hand, we have supplied one machine into the basement of a house, with an afterburner and even had to poke a hole through the ceiling into the space under the owner’s king size bed, in order to get enough clearance for the loader of the roasting machine. Now it made no sense to me to install a roaster in the basement of a residence, but this guy built quite a business there until the neighbors stopped him because of the huge delivery trucks bringing green coffee to the house. They didn't mind too much about the UPS guy there every afternoon for pick-ups, but the twice weekly an 18 Wheeler on a residential street became a little too much.”“

„Gaviña’s comments lead to the question whether the foodservice industry does not bear actual antipathy toward coffee and whether, despite the lower cost of coffee, foodservice managers and executives would prefer that it wasn’t on their menus at all. The labor component of coffee is much higher than for any other beverage and the labor variable also means that coffee can never be as consistent as fountain or bottled beverages. Coffee is a management problem and an annoyance from the foodservice management perspective and the consistent abuse it is subject to at the hands of the restaurant industry couldn’t be a more effective way of discouraging consumption. For proof, just order a cup of coffee at the average restaurant-even one charging $25 and up for entrees!“

„He said further research was needed before people with blood pressure problems were advised not to drink decaffeinated coffee. Professor Bryan Williams, of the Blood Pressure Association, said the study was small and inconclusive. He said: "Recommendations to reduce or cease coffee consumption in people with hypertension would not be appropriate as it would not make a major impact on blood pressure." Dr Simon Thom of St Mary's Hospital in London said coffee had a small effect on blood pressure compared to other foods like salt.“
