However, Second Cup's try at the U.S. has been less than successful; the U.S. business was lagging badly enough that Second Cup sold Coffee People this past summer.“

„It's interesting that people criticize 'coffee chain coffee'; for instance Starbucks and Gloria Jean's, and compare it to large transnational companies like Maccas, when, in my opinion, the only way to continue a tradition of coffee recipes and styles is to 'standardize' them through these large chains.Actually, as Jim says, I'd argue the opposite. Imagine if Starbucks decides that a cappuccino should have 1/2 again as much milk as it currently does (They wouldn't do that would they?) because that's what their customers worldwide prefer or because the price of coffee went up and the price of milk went down.“

„Allann Brothers Coffee Company, Inc., a regional roaster in both wholesale and retail in Albany, Oregon also reports that their private label business is growing. “We’ve been in private label for some time, but I have never really addressed private label, it just grew itself.” Noted Allan Stuart, president of the company, “About 10 years ago it started to really expand. Some of our clients are in allied products, some are roasters who could bring in more roasting equipment but who have found it is easier to let us roast their overflow.“

„you mentioned seattle's best (now owned by starbucks...eeek)- their best-selling drink is a Naughty Toddy, Gloria Jean's is a Hotty Toddy- all use Toddy's process. i've asked managers at both places, and they use a medium roast, coarse grind- sorta like what you would use in an old fashioned percolator. hope this helps.“
