SwissMar Alpenrost Roasting Tip Sheet from Sweet Maria's

SwissMar Alpenrost Roasting Tip Sheet from Sweet Maria's ()

„Nonetheless, I would suggest roasting your first batch at “8”, but this may be too light for most people. The Alpenrost results do vary based on the input voltage and ambient temperature, so an “8” on my unit at the shop can be different from yours. But in general this should produce a lighter City roast. Also, never lift the hood of the roaster during the roast cycle .“

„Long Wearing out of this current crop of machines, the Alpenrost (supplied by Swissmar ) is easily the longest wearing machine of the bunch. I've put about 180lbs (370 roasting sessions) of coffee through this thing, and while it isn't performing at top ability today, it's holding up well. Two things that went on the unit - the display panel's LED counter has one of the bars not working, so 8 looks like a 9, etc.“

„The HotTop works almost exactly like a full-sized professional drum-style roasting machines and costs about $600. The Swissmar Alpenrost costs less (around $300) than the HotTop, roasts slightly less coffee, and, does not allow the user to observe the color of the beans as they roast. The Alpenrost produces a somewhat heavier bodied, less lively tasting coffee than the HotTop.“

„Devil's Advocate: the above point about simple one-touch automation, ease of use, etc, may lead you to think the Alpenrost is for the busy person who wants to hit a button and get great coffee. Actually, I think the Alpenrost is a roaster for someone who wants to fiddle with the process more, because you may find yourself adding a aluminum laundry vent for smoke, maybe wanting a thermometer since you can't watch the coffee roasting, and maybe fiddling with the air flow through the roaster (by blocking some of the input vents in the roasted bean bin to raise the roast chamber temp. and roast darker). As with any roaster you must never leave it unattended while it is operating!!!“
