Before, the Pike Place Roast bags proclaimed their roasting date, which is far more relevant to freshness than any other factor.

As Crosscut writer Daniel Jack Chasan has explained, the real story is a bit more complicated:

Brewed Coffee[Brewed Coffee] Starbucks’ Pike Roast: The result is a mellower flavor that our three expert tasters and other CR staffers, who sampled the blend at a dozen U.S. stores on the East and West coasts, described as generally mild, “with very subtle floral notes, a hint of cocoa-like aromatic, and a medium roast impression.” Generally, they found Pike Place Roast to be “a smooth cup of coffee with some bitterness, but not particularly complex.”

The business of my business.] Behind the Coffee Cup”¦: The gist: It’s said to be the standard-issue roast from the original, Seattle, Washington Starbucks place (the Pike Place location). It would seem it’s now being promoted as the new “house blend”

No matter what we do as a company, people will whine, because we're a big corporation, and as we all know, big corporations are bad, according the commies in the media, and the "commies" that tend to be the main people critical of the company..When the new changes start to result in more sales, and a higher stock price, you won't see Wall Street saying anything about how the coffee tastes..

I could discern that they probable use less strength when brewing and then as it sit for a while it stiffens up to a mello flavor which is just my observation.

The Stew[The Stew] Starbucks' new Pike Place Roast drips out early in Gold Coast: Perhaps they are over roasted, but I far prefer it to under-roasted, anemically under concentrated Dunkin Donuts coffee. PPR is a little fuller in taste than DD, but it feels much closer to DD than my usual morning cup of Verona or Gold Coast blend (it doesn't even compare to Starbucks excellent Christmas Blend served seasonally).

They can sit for an indefinite (although I'm sure not infinite) amount of time before they are roasted, so long as they are then sold within 14 days after the roasting.

My Starbucks Blog[My Starbucks Blog] UPDATED: April 8th Pike Place Roast Launch: Apparently as part the April 8th Pike Place Roast launch, Starbucks coffee makers have been retooled to deliver an even better cup of coffee. Additionally, as part of the launch, the green logo will be absent from cups and replaced with the, slightly modified, original logo.

Starbucks Gossip[Starbucks Gossip] Pike Place Roast gets an OK review from Consumer Reports: Don't know how you don't know about it since it officially marked the point when McDonald's truly became noted as a competitor of Starbucks. In Howard Schultz's investor conference address, he specifically said "we refuse to be #2 to anyone."

And the previous poster is right, it’s difficult to get a cup of the stronger brew at Starbucks because 2/3 of the product offering is now PP and the bold offering is rather bold these days–today it was Verona which is very mild.
