A Little Update, Vegetable Lasagna, and Starbucks

Escape from Obesityhttp://escapefromobesity.blogspot.com/2008/10/little-update-vegetable-lasagna-and.html [Escape from Obesity] . I didn't think I could justify THAT. I looked at the junkier cocoas without real chocolate in them... 140 calories in a cup. But then I would have a huge container of cocoa on hand and I have a *thing* about chocolate: it disappears within hours of entering my house... and I have been known to actually mix up brownie batter using hot cocoa mix when I was desperate. I picked up a bag of hot cocoa mix. I walked around the aisles with it in my hand. Finally I set it down and got out of there. Yes, I considered getting the "diet" hot cocoa for 25 calories, but I've had it before and I didn't like it. So I just left. After I paid for my groceries and got into my car, I thought, "way to go, self. I'll just go home and have hot tea instead." And then as I was pulling out I saw the OTHER Starbucks down the street with its LIGHTS on!! It looked open. I started towards it, I peered closer, then I said to myself, "quit it, just go have your tea" and I went on past without looking to see for sure if it was open. I came home and had Pumpkin Spice tea with a bit of skim milk and agave nectar, and it was very nice and comforting.

Espresso Glasses

Petunia Bloom[Petunia Bloom] Yesterday I was still bummed about breaking my espresso shot glasses.  Ryan wanted me to run to Starbucks and get him a little afternoon treat.  I went to the location on Memorial and 71st.  When I went through the drive-through I ordered and then asked if they sold espresso shot glasses.  The employee said they would check.  When I pulled up to the window, a man peeked his head out holding an espresso shot glass that they use in the store and claimed they didn’t sell any retail but they would sell me some the use in their store.  I asked how much, and he said $1 per glass.  OMG–First of all, that was the type of glass I wanted in the first place; Second of all, if you are to buy espresso shot glasses anywhere else for retail you are likely to pay around $10.  I was so excited!!  That is what I should have done in the first place- try to buy them from Starbucks.  FYI if you make espresso at home!

Starbucks and Store Closings: How will it affect the experience?

Untitledhttp://customersrock.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/starbucks-and-store-closings-how-will-it-affect-the-experience/ [Untitled] It remains to be seen whether these closures will impact the customer experience in a negative way.  If going back to the customer experience is really what the Starbucks “Transformation Agenda” is about, then one wonders where increasing the number of store closures fits in.  If the stores that remain open are staffed to the proper levels so customer service doesn’t suffer, this may help the experience in the long run.

Starbucks to Quit Music Distribution, Keep Serving Coffee

Cult of Mac - News and opinion about the Mac and ipod communitieshttp://cultofmac.com/starbucks-to-quit-music-distribution-keep-serving-coffee/2162 [Cult of Mac - News and opinion about the Mac and ipod communities] That’s somewhat unfortunate - Starbucks always had some really good CD collections and compilations to peruse while waiting for your coffee to be prepared. Play The Subversive Game: Make Starbucks Say “Large”

CogDogBloghttp://cogdogblog.com/2008/05/08/make-starbucks-say-large/ [CogDogBlog] This is too funny…I had a side conversation with a group of folks about a month ago during a presentation I was giving about this same idea of using the English language to describe the Starbucks coffee sizes. We were looking at the website “My Starbucks Idea”

I’ll Have Starbucks Shares With Room For Growth

Main Street Investorhttp://mainstreetinvestor.wordpress.com/2008/04/29/ill-have-starbucks-shares-with-room-for-growth/ [Main Street Investor] So instead of going an extra mile or so out of my way to the nearest McDonalds for coffee I like better, I buy Starbucks coffee, because the store is conveniently located. Am I lazy?

Time magazine writer: Pike Place Roast is "coffee for people who ...

Starbucks Gossip[Starbucks Gossip] And, there is a way you can tell whether the coffee is getting low, and that's just by looking at the clear glass window on the urn..When the liquid in the window gets low, you move and rebrew another as a backup, or you stage it to where you can start brewing as soon as it runs out(If you are low on urns for whatever reason)..As a partner, I have started to ignore the critics, because most of them are just frustrated that Starbucks won't ever be dead, and that as soon as the recession is over, Starbucks will be positioned for success, becuase we are getting all the kinks out now. No matter what we do as a company, people will whine, because we're a big corporation, and as we all know, big corporations are bad, according the commies in the media, and the "commies" that tend to be the main people critical of the company..When the new changes start to result in more sales, and a higher stock price, you won't see Wall Street saying anything about how the coffee tastes..

Starbucks Now Accepts "Laissez Faire":

The Volokh Conspiracy[The Volokh Conspiracy] Any good libertarian would say that Starbucks should be free to have the rules say that anyone up to and including Howard Schultz gets a cut of the tips and potential employees are free to decide to work there under those conditions or work at the other stores that would obviously pop up to employee baristas who don't want to share tips if the market really "thinks" that's a superior solution.

Candy Review: Starbucks Chocolate

Candy Addicthttp://candyaddict.com/blog/2008/04/08/candy-review-starbucks-chocolate/ [Candy Addict] Dark Chocolate Vanilla Bean Truffles: I assumed this was going to be really sweet, but again I was wrong! The vanilla bean center is creamy and smooth, and this is going to be hard to describe, but it’s like I can taste the extract part of the vanilla extract more than the vanilla bean.

Starbucks (a rant)

Chrysler listens, Starbucks wants ideas.

Web Junglehttp://www.web-jungle.com/2008/03/27/chrysler-listens-starbucks-wants-ideas/ [Web Jungle] If the consumer ideas and suggestions are crap, useless, unreal or simply silly, the companies might soon stop asking consumers in this fashion. It would then be much easier to go back to the old fashioned model of focus group research, where the noise to signal ratio is much better.

Starbucks-like Depth.
