„Low Graphics Tuesday, 11 December, 2001, 07:26 GMT Compass profits on the boil Compass cooks up a storm in canteens The world's largest catering company, Compass Group has reported strong results despite the global economic slowdown. The British group - which owns brands like Little Chef, Upper Crust and Ritazza - had issued a profit warning after the US attacks as did its biggest competitor, France's Sodexho Alliance. We remain confident that Compass Group will continue to perform well, achieving market share gains that will drive organic sales growth within our target range of between 6% and 9% in 2002. BBC NEWS | Business | Sodexho hit by British shortfall (#)

„Not enough vigilance Sodexho, which operates in the same market as catering group Compass, said: "Serious errors of management as well as accounting anomalies" in its British operations had been discovered and that this would set its objectives back by a year in the UK. The company also criticised its UK auditors, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, which it said "have not been sufficiently vigilant." Sodexho's warning spooked investors its UK rival Compass, whose brands include Little Chef and Ritazza coffee bars. Its shares fell 10% in early trade on the back of the warning before recovering to a 2% fall by the end of the day. Analysts said they had been aware of the accounting problems in Britain but had not been expecting a profit warning. They now fear more bad news.“

Tea & Coffee 05/01 - An Interview With Philippe Bloch of Columbus Cafés (Cont) (#)

„P.B.: To my thinking there is enough room for at least 500 Columbus Cafés in France, and that our brand has a very strong potential in Europe (name, logo, image, design, values, reputation, pastries, etc.), even considering all the local emerging and competing brands. I don’t foresee at this time there being any major threat to our kind of concept from Nescafé, SSP’s Ritazza, Scappucci Café, McCafés, etc. We are also thinking of establishing a partnership with a major roaster in order to introduce our coffee in supermarkets, which will make the brand even stronger and more recognized. We’ve already been approached by one of them.“

Global Exchange : Activist Network (#)

„Efforts to get Fair Trade coffee at the New School University continue although we've made less progress than I hoped we would at this point in the game. We've got FTC Ritazza-style served in one location so its a start. We continue to encourage our food service provider to switch to a 100% FT roaster.“
