Press Pot Tutorial (INeedCoffee.com) ()

„Don't let the brewed coffee sit inside the glass beaker brewing. Move it from the press pot to a thermal container or just brew what you need. Also note that if you've been accustomed to drinking drip coffee, press pot coffee will taste richer (stronger) at first.“

„In filter and drip systems, avoid brewing less than the brewer's full capacity. If the pot is made to brew six cups, the coffee will taste better if you brew the full six.“

„There is no such thing as a 'fast' coffee brewer. A good drip brewer will turn out 4 to 6 small mugs of hot coffee in about 5 to 7 minutes. Why, you ask? The ideal rate of extraction and the brewing temperature are kind of tied together.“

„It is supposed to be set to "Full Drip" when you brew a full pot, "Slow Drip" (half open) for brewing less than a full pot, and No Drip (closed) to pull out the pot when coffee is still brewing. However, it has a fantastic alternative function; I set it to No Drip for the first 1-2 minutes of the brew cycle to allow for the hot water and grinds to fully infuse, then I switch it to Slow Drip for the remainder of the brew cycle (I see no need to use Full Drip at all). The intensity of the coffee is excellent using this technique, and no longer is the timing of the water passing through the coffee dependent on the grind; too coarse and the brew tastes week and under-infused, too fine and it is bitter and has sediment). This improves the performance of Swiss Gold filters in the Technivorm too, and we currently use one here at the shop with great results.“

Selecting a Coffee Brewing Method Selecting a Coffee Brewing Method

„Filter Drip: The most widely used method to brew coffee, probably due to it's ease of operation and consistency. Water is heated in a chamber to almost-boiling and slowly poured over the ground coffee beans. This can be done via an electronic drip machine where the water is sprayed over the grounds, or manually poured over grounds in a cone-shaped filter. Some electronic models allow you to preset the coffee brewing mechanism so you can have you first wake-up cup as soon as you stumble out of bed.“
