PR Starbucks, 4/00 (#)
„According to published reports, Starbucks commitment to fair trade is for one year pending consumer reaction. Furthermore, its fair trade coffee will only be available in packages, a small percentage of the companys overall coffee sales. It will not be available by the cup in their 2,300 stores.“

„The aim was to find a way to create a devoted niche market for shade-grown coffee, tapping into the economic and environmental benefits. Starbucks had purchased 34,000 kilograms of shade-grown coffee on the fair-trade market last year and sold it within a month.“

„21, 2000) In an unusual turn of events, a small, Boston area company, Equal Exchange, congratulates a number of much larger companies for having announced that they are entering the field of fairly traded coffees the niche market that Equal Exchange has had mostly to themselves since they created the category in 1991. In keeping with the companys unconventional approach to business, Equal Exchange is glad to have direct competition for the first time, even specialty coffee powerhouses like Starbucks and Green Mountain.“

„The University of Iowa gets coffee from Starbucks and also from Superior Coffee which is a subsidiary of Sara Lee. Superior offers FT but it's at $5.00 more per pound and that's not in the UI's current contract with them. Also, it's too much money according to what they're doing now.“

„Neither company seems willing to honestly address the fundamental inequities inherent in the world coffee trade. If the likes of P&G and Starbucks, with their massive resources, can't commit to Fair Trade for even 1% of their coffee, their announcements appear more marketing driven than substance."“
