NCA Submits Comments Urging NAFTA Changes - National Coffee Association ()

„The NCA also asserts that NAFTA's unconventional rules of origin set a dangerous precedent for other trade agreements. Determining the origin of U.S. roasted coffee exclusively by where the beans are grown, as the NAFTA coffee origin rules do, ignores the substantial added value arising from processing, roasting and grinding. This restrictive rule effectively excludes U.S. coffee products from preferential NAFTA duties in Mexico, unnecessarily limiting expanded market access. That barrier, in turn, limits access of high-quality U.S. coffee products to Mexican consumers.“

„If preferential treatment exists only for products roasted using beans exclusively grown in the country of a signing party, very little U.S. roasted coffee, if any, would receive favorable treatment. The vast majority of U.S. roasted coffee uses proprietary blends developed with complex recipes that call for green beans from many countries.“

Proper Coffee Storage Proper Coffee Storage

„So, the next best way to store coffee is to store in roasted but whole bean form. Grinding your own beans is pretty simple, and will be worth the effort. Roasted whole bean will last 1 to 2 weeks, when stored at room temperature. You should keep it in an airtight container that blocks the light.“
