My conversion to dried beans
[Slashfood] Several times a month I make a pot of beans overnight, put half back in the pot with meat and veggies for chile or beans and rice or something similar to cook during the day, then put the rest in the fridge to use later in the week in a lighter dish. The crockpot method takes a lot of the nuisance waiting time out of the process!

[Thermal Cooking Weblog] A Hay Box Cooker An Old Invention - Out of New Materials: I was not happy with this, so using a cut of funnel I persuaded a whole stack of the polystyrene beans to go into a moulding hole in the top. That was one tedious job, because the beans clearly did not want to go into the lid!

[among Friends] Cooking with Simplicity: Not-Refried Pinto Beans: For the second cooking cycle, I make sure water is again to the fill line in the cooker (or thoroughly covering the beans). I add about 4-6 chopped cloves of garlic (depending on size and your taste) and a few dashes of cayenne pepper. (Again, don’t add salt or spices containing salt until near the end of cooking time, as they can make beans tough — and remember: many prepared chili powders contain salt.)
