Mostly Italian Coffee (#)
„It were the Dutch who started to farm coffee in Java 1697 and 1719 the first shipment of javacoffee reached Europe. Soon thereafter coffeefarming started in Ceylon, Southeast Asia and on the island of Bourbon (now Reunion Island). The coffeebush reached Paris via a botanic garden in Amsterdam. A french seaofficer, De Clieu took a plant from this bush and carried it with him across the Atlantic ocean (somehow the coffeeplant survived) to the Westindies and it was this plant who was the "grandmother" to the grandious coffeeplantations in Central and South America. The rest is - history. The coffeehousesThe coffeehouses were the first place where people learned about the brew.“

„From Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, coffee warms the soul and brings people together.Discovered in a remote corner of Abyssinia, coffee has its roots in a land where genies appear from magic lamps, and where seers use it to foretell the future. No wonder coffee began its history surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend. The Book of Coffee tells of famous coffee-lovers--such as Bach who dedicated a cantata to his favorite beverage, and Pope Clement VIII who refused to ban the allegedly "diabolical" drink--and reveals through an astonishing and beautiful collectio of images the importance of coffee in society from the London coffee-houses of the sevententh century to the Prohibition years in the United States when coffee consumption reached record levels.Filled with advice on how to achieve the perfect cup of coffee, the book also includes a Guide to the best coffee purveyors and coffee shops throughout the world--making The Book of Coffee and indispensable gift for the true coffee-lover.“

„The Capuchin order of friars, established after 1525, played an important role in bringing Catholicism back to Reformation Europe. Its Italian name came from the long, pointed cowl, or cappuccino, derived from cappuccio, "hood," that was worn as part of the order's habit. The French version of cappuccino was capuchin, from which came English Capuchin. In Italian cappuccino went on to describe espresso coffee mixed or topped with steamed milk or cream, so called because the color of the coffee resembled the color of the habit of a Capuchin friar.“

„I am a great fan of cafe culture and have been in my fair share of coffee houses and bars throughout Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and South America. As Dave says, there isn't a lot of consistency to be found and I think a lot has to do with the varying skills of the baristas that are manning the machines as well as the dreck that is supplied by most large scale commercial roasters. The owners are out to make a buck and one way is to keep the cost of supplies low.“
