MCC Coffee Project (#)
„In your congregation, a women’s, men’s or youth group, or social action committee can introduce you community to Fair Trade. Then, as your congregation enjoys delicious coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate, take time to learn together about its impact on the people who grow it. Read about the lives of farmers and their families, discuss issues of justice in the global marketplace and take action in the spirit of love.“

„The farmers and businesspeople who want to work with the Fair Trade system agree to do business by the rules. When cocoa is sold and a chocolate bar has been made according to the Fair Trade rules, it gets to have a logo on it, like this:“

„In Nicaragua , Equal Exchange helped small farmers to organize their own cooperative federation, PRODECOOP. By participating in the Coffee Project, your congregation can help communities invest in farm improvements, reduce debt, improve nutrition, and provide leadership training for women. "It is very important for you to know that fair trade leads to better roads, better health and better lives for farmers not just in Nicaragua, but around the world," says Rosario Castellón, former director of PRODECOOP.“

„Caffeine occurs naturally in tea, coffee, cocoa and chocolate products and is added to soft drinks and a variety of both prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Standard values for the caffeine content of these foods and beverages have been set (1). Thus an average sized cup (150 ml) of ground roasted coffee contains around 85 mg, instant coffee 60 mg, decaffeinated coffee 3 mg, leaf or bag tea 30 mg, instant tea 20 mg and cocoa or hot chocolate 4 mg caffeine.“
