MCC Coffee Project (#)
„CONACADO, the National Confederation of Dominican Cocoa Producers, was founded in 1988 to help small farmers in the Dominican Republic to gain a better price for their cocoa beans through fair trade and organic production. Your purchases help CONACADO to increase incomes, provide training in quality improvement, and supports cooperative development in the second poorest country in the Caribbean.“

„The Fair Trade cocoa beans used in the mix were grown by a cooperative of cocoa farmers in the Dominican Republic, who use the income from Fair Trade to invest in plant nurseries so that farmer members can grow their own food. Green Mountain's Fair Trade hot cocoa launch is part of a growing trend by roasters who want to leverage their Fair Trade coffee success by expanding to other products. To find out how to start offering Fair Trade Certified hot cocoa and chocolate bars as part of your product line, contact cocoa@transfairusa.org .“

„may be of interest to you! Just search for "cocoa" and there's an article that explains the dangers of cocoa bean mulch to dogs (apparently the same substances exist in both coffee beans and chocolate beans that can harm animals: namely, methylxanthines theobromine and caffeine) .It's interesting that the effects in animals are widely varied... may explain your dog's lack of reaction!“

„Equal Exchange's cocoa products from farmer cooperatives in the Dominican Republic give Americans an immediate, positive way to respond to the reports of chronic poverty, exploited child labor and slavery on cocoa farms in West Africa - the origin of 70% of the world’s cocoa. Even though Americans spend $13 billion a year on cocoa products, low prices paid to farmers have kept them poor, vulnerable and desperate. Thanks to recent pressure the cocoa industry has begun to study the labor problem, but it will not produce voluntary standards for cocoa trading until 2005. Equal Exchange’s cocoa products enable consumers to support a more sustainable and just cocoa economy today.“

„Second A businessperson purchases the cocoa beans from the farmer. She turns the cocoa into chocolate bars and puts them in a package. The businessperson then sells her bars to stores in Canada. She does this to earn money to feed her family too.“
