„To the Editor: Coffee consumption has been associated with a substantially lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.1 However, despite the widespread use of coffee, there are few data on the specific effects of coffee on the 2 main causes of diabetes, ie, insulin resistance and defective insulin secretion. We investigated the association between coffee consumption and both insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion in a sample of elderly Swedish men without diabetes.“

„In 16 chapters, global contributors explore the inconsistent empirical data on the psychobehavioral effects of caffeine regarding such issues of interest to coffee, tea, and cola imbibers as caffeine's effects on cognitive and motor performance, mood, attention, and fatigue. They address whether drinks such as espresso can cause dependence; caffeine's interaction with other drugs; the key role of adenosine receptors in the brain; how expectations affect behavior; and bridging the gap between animal and human research. The conclusion calls for further research on the sites and mechanisms of caffeine's action, and its complex effects on diverse tasks. -- Copyright © 1999 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR All rights reserved“
