It's All About Coffee (#)
„"If you like full-bodied coffee with low acidity, for instance, Jamaican Blue Mountain may be for you. Sumatran tends to be full-bodied with earthy notes; Kenyan, medium-bodied with berry notes."“

„In the process Kona has become a bit pricey, perhaps toopricey when compared with some of the world's great and undervalued coffees, such as thebest Sumatran, Guatemalan, and Kenyan. Furthermore, its cost has created an equivalent tothe Jamaican Blue Mountain syndrome: We now have commercial roasters producing Kona stylecoffee, Kona blend coffee, and coffee vaguely labeled Kona that probably consists in largepart of Central American beans. In 1991 most "Kona Blend" coffees sold in Hawaiicontained at most 5 percent actual Kona. Proposed regulations up the minimum percentagerequired by law to 51 percent.“

„The purchase of Sumatran organic coffee does, however, help to protect the livelihood of the small farmer in cooperatives, as well as the environment in which they farm. Fair Trade Coffee is produced under a program that ensures that the coffee farmers in developing countries (like Indonesia) are paid more for their coffee. Under the fair trade agreement, an importer must meet stringent international criteria; paying a minimum price per pound of $1.26, providing much needed credit to farmers, and providing technical assistance such as help transitioning to organic farming. Fair Trade for coffee farmers means community development, health, education, and environmental stewardship.“

„Beware of imposters; Jamaica High Mountain is not Jamaica Blue Mountain, and many coffees are actually blends that contain little Jamaican. It's fun to roast Blue Mountain and find out what this highly touted coffee is all about when it is fresh .and why it ranks among the better Mexican coffees in terms of cup quality.“

„Some years ago it was not entirely clear whether any high-quality coffee from the Blue Mountain district of Jamaica was entitled to be marketed as Jamaican Blue Mountain, or whether the name properly applies only to coffees grown on a single plantation, the Wallensford Estate. Today, responsible roasters designate estate-produced coffees grown at over 3,000 feet in the Blue Mountain district of Jamaica as authentic Blue Mountain. Most will be either Wallensford (best) or Silver Hill Estate Mountain.“

„Sumatran coffees are some of the heaviest, smoothest, and most complex coffees in the world. Most of the coffees from Sumatra are dry-processed, but some are semi-washed. The majority of the coffee is marked Mandheling or Lintong and is grown inland from the southern coast. Coffee grown farther west is usually marked Gayo Mountain and is described as a sweet and clean.“
