Indian coffee board- monthly magazine- Workshop on Coffee Consumption in Producing Countries (#)
„Carlos felt that there was a higher rate of return to investment of promotion of coffee consumption in producing countries because the investment made on media, advertisement and purity analysis for the past fourteen years gave positive results in improving domestic coffee consumption in Brazil. The components of the manual developed with the objective of improving coffee consumption in the producing countries were also explained. The manual consisted of various components like diagnosis, institutional framework, promotional tools, strategies, fund raising, public-private participation and evaluation. The manual will be released formally by the ICO during January 2005 and later will be supplied to the producing countries.“

„Carlos Brando from Brazil presented the "Brazilian Experience to Promote Coffee Consumption" covering a comprehensive overview of coffee consumption in Brazil during 1990's and highlighted several steps taken to promote coffee consumption. Coffee consumption was promoted by creating awareness among different segments of the population by disseminating the positive health effects of coffee through media and messages. The consumer was targeted before the medical professionals in order to improve the domestic coffee consumption.“

„  India Coffees produced in India have more in common with Indonesian coffees than with coffees from Africa or the Arabian peninsula. Good Indian coffees are grown in the states of Karnatka (formerly Mysore), Kerala, and Tamilnadu (formerly Madras). In good years these coffees can contain acidity typical of Guatemalan coffee, and the full body of a good Javanese coffee. In addition, these coffees incorporate the unique spicy flavors of nutmeg, clove, cardamom, and pepper.“

„Furthermore, Indians drink a lot of coffee, particularly in the south of India, where most Indian coffee is grown. And in the more affluent areas of urban India, hundreds of sleek, comfortable cafes a la Starbucks are springing up to supplement the traditional Indian coffee carts and houses.“

„The Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI) of the Coffee Board, which was pioneering the research activities, realized the need to open extension offices in the coffee growing areas of Southern India. It was in the early period of 1950 and onwards, few extension offices were opened with concentration in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, South Kerala and Waynad to disseminate the research findings to the growers for successful coffee cultivation. The CCRI, which was the flagship for the research programmes supported the planting community by supplying improved plant materials for vast expansion of coffee in South India. S.795, the seed material indigenously developed at CCRI was the improved selection strain that gained the confidence of planting community and large areas were expanded with this material.“
