„Recent evaluation tests conducted for three years at CCRI have revealed that Lindane is as effective as BHC and since Lindane is available in liquid form it is easy to spray the solution directly on to the main stem and thick primaries with some amount of pressure using a backpack sprayer which facilitates penetration of the pesticide solution into the cracks and crevices on the coffee bark. Lindane 20 EC at the Brain Storming Session on Coffee White Stem Borer Coffee Board organized a Brain Storming Session on Coffee White Stem Borer at the Board's Conference Room on 23rd July 2004 at Bangalore on the premise that there was a communication gap with regard to the management of the stem borer and the coffee growing community needs to convinced about the research efforts being made and also about appropriate management strategies to be adopted to mitigate the situation. The short term and long term measures needed to tackle the stem borer menace as well as prioritization of research areas keeping in view the changing weather parameters formed the main focus of the Brain Storming Session.“

„Prior to introduction of lindane, BHC was recommended for stem application against white stem borer, till it was banned about a decade ago. During those time studies carried out on residues of BHC in drinking water and coffee beans have clearly indicated that there are no residues of BHC in the beans'. As an alternate to Lindane, now chlorpyrilos is suggested for use in the management of stem borer. The use of ecofriendly products like 10%Lime solution, which is found effective in the trials, is also being encouraged to reduce the dependence on chemical pesticides for borer control.“

„The Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI) of the Coffee Board, which was pioneering the research activities, realized the need to open extension offices in the coffee growing areas of Southern India. It was in the early period of 1950 and onwards, few extension offices were opened with concentration in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, South Kerala and Waynad to disseminate the research findings to the growers for successful coffee cultivation. The CCRI, which was the flagship for the research programmes supported the planting community by supplying improved plant materials for vast expansion of coffee in South India. S.795, the seed material indigenously developed at CCRI was the improved selection strain that gained the confidence of planting community and large areas were expanded with this material.“
