„Dr. Crozier, UK Presented the paper titled "Phenolic Antioxidants in Coffee - their Absorption and Metabolism in Human Volunteers". The speaker mentioned that coffee contains several antioxidants like hydrooxicinnamates, 3-caffeoylquinic acid and chlorogenic acid of which the latter compound is the major antioxidant. The analytical report indicated that chlorogenic acids are largely absorbed by the large intestine and caffeoylquinic acids by small intestine of human body.“

„An important event being dovetailed with our participation is the final round of "Flavour of India - The Fine Cup Award" competition 2003, where an international jury of 12 cupping experts will select the best coffees from India at Boston, at an event immediately preceding the SCAA conference. From the competition entries received earlier this year, the selections for this round have been finalized by a national jury in Bangalore. These award-winning coffees will be given the much needed promotion and publicity and will be available for extensive sampling at our pavilion along with other top specialty/regional coffees.“

„The Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI) of the Coffee Board, which was pioneering the research activities, realized the need to open extension offices in the coffee growing areas of Southern India. It was in the early period of 1950 and onwards, few extension offices were opened with concentration in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, South Kerala and Waynad to disseminate the research findings to the growers for successful coffee cultivation. The CCRI, which was the flagship for the research programmes supported the planting community by supplying improved plant materials for vast expansion of coffee in South India. S.795, the seed material indigenously developed at CCRI was the improved selection strain that gained the confidence of planting community and large areas were expanded with this material.“

And so now he has his regular clientele, some of whom we saw, a lady with two dogs basking in the morning sun outside at one of the tables, a man who comes with two women, encouraging speculation between my daughter and me as to what their relationship they could be, two women who were dawdling over their coffee with many a giggle, a young father who was indulging his infant son with a chocolate pastry - maybe he was giving his wife a lie-in on a Sunday, two men in suits discussing, possibly, the state of the world's economy, an obvious mother-daughter combination, and a man engrossed in his laptop - a writer in the making?“
