Upasi said for more than three years, all the major plantation crops in South India had been undergoing crisis due to high cost and lower price realization. The tea industry, particularly in South India has been reeling under a crisis for over two years by now because of the sharp fall in prices and, in contrast, steep escalation in costs.“

„A Coffee Board press-release issued has said this decision was taken so as to provide some relief to small growers. With over 80 per cent of India's coffee being exported, small growers have been badly affected by the current slump in international prices with realisations falling below the cost of production for quite a few grades, especially Robusta.“
