„President Miguel Ángel Rodríguez signed the law on 12 January,2002, at a meeting with coffee producers, processors and exporters held at CoopePalmares R.L. Backing for the trust fund will be provided by the Costa Rican Coffee Institute (ICAFE), which will guarantee $5 million; INFOCOOP, another $5 million; the loans received by coffee growers; and the State ($25 million). Juan Bautista Moya, Executive Director of ICAFE, says the sector is confident that the guarantees will not have to be executed, since the trust fund stipulates that when a producer voluntarily makes use of it, a percentage of the benefits will be withheld and applied against his or her debt. Once the trust fund is set up, bonds totaling $75 million will be issued in order to offer long-term rescheduling of loans.“

The family had no relationship with the people who handled their coffee, and they had no idea what the coffee sold for to roasters or consumers. Today, things are much different. „In China, one of the country's largest annual trade fairs has opened in Shanghai. The East China Trade Fair features about 100 international companies seeking to enter the Chinese market, as well as more than 1,000 Chinese manufacturers looking for markets abroad. Organisers say this year's fair is the biggest in the event's history and hope it will exceed the $1.25bn in contracts signed last year. Everything from Inner Mongolian knitwear to teddy bears from Jiangsu province is on display in five huge exhibition halls at two separate venues in Shanghai.“
