„You will spend much thought and energy tweaking your grinder for the perfect pour. Life with your espresso machine is better if you just invest in two grinders: one very good tool for espresso and a cheap little blade grinder for your other coffee brewing needs. Some espresso enthusiasts swear by their manual, hand-cranked grinders. See the Chrome Peacock Lever Machine Web site, described above, for a source for hand-cranked coffee mills.“

„This article is round one in a series of reviews on a wide variety of espresso machines paired up with various coffee grinders. I have paired it up in the lab with a Solis Maestro Plus grinder as well as the Rancilio Rocky grinder for benchmarking. Our readers want the best for the least and that is where we are going to start.“

„The timer shuts the grinder off automatically. These machines produce a more consistent grind than the cheaper electric blade grinders, they usually do not have to be fussed over while they grind, and they definitely do not need to be cranked by hand. You must be prepared, however, to clean the aperture for the ground coffee after every third or fourth use (some coffee stores sell a brush for this purpose; a small, stiff paintbrush works fine), and periodically open the grinder and clean the burrs. If you grind oily dark roasts, you may find that a brush is not enough for cleaning your grinder; you may have to literally carve the caked coffee from parts of your grinder when you carry out a major cleaning.“

„I scanned the Web and found that there is a superior type of grinder called a "burr" grinder. Burr grinders are better than the spinning blade grinders because the bean goes through the grinder only one time. The beans are loaded into one compartment, proceed through a blade mechanism, and the grounds are then dispersed into a second compartment. This produces a more even grind.“
