„The first is an arabica, Indian Plantation A -Jumboor Estate from the Northern Coorg district, and for espresso blends we have the Indian Robusta - Cannoncadoo Estate. These both won first place awards in their respective categories (arabica, robusta) in the India Fine Cup coffee competition in 2004! 1/9: It's unusual to have a late crop Guatemala coffee, but this lot impressed me so much I had to get it. It is the Guatemala Barillas - Nuevo Bullaj Coop from the far north of the Huehuetenango state.“

Robusta Coffees for Home Roast Espresso Blends Robusta Coffees for Home Roast Espresso Blends

„This lot is from the Cannoncadoo Estate and was judged the Best Robusta from the Coorg State in the India Fine Cup competition in 2004. The farm is situated at 3,770 feet and processed using the traditional wet-process methods used on many arabica coffees. I would use this in an espresso blend between 10-25% (more than I would normally put, but this is an exceptional robusta). This coffee, like other robusta, adds rich-colored crema to the espresso cup, but also has great flavor attributes that you will not find in common arabicas; it actually has a very sharp chocolate aroma with sweet hints, and a dark-roasted nut character that reflects the level of roast you choose (I prefered 455-460 probed bean temp, a light Vienna roast of Full City ++).“

Home Espresso FAQ Home Espresso FAQ

„Fine Arabica coffees contain one half of the caffeine found naturally in the cheaper Robusta beans that are used in supermarket coffees. (Using Robustas in espresso blends is another controversy that tweaks the regulars around the newsgroups.)     The results of chemical analysis performed by Lauk's Testing Labs in Seattle were recently posted at the LucidCafe Web site by David Schomer. Check out these numbers:     Espresso Ristretto (18.5 grams of finely ground coffee, 1 3/4 fluid ozs) 230 milligrams of caffeine.     Paper Filtered, Cone drip brewed coffee (18.5 grams of Arabica coffee, about 16 fluid ozs) 340 milligrams of caffeine     Those are interesting numbers but I don't know anyone who makes a 16 oz pot using only 18.5 grams of ground coffee.“

Interview with a Roastmaster Interview with a Roastmaster

„"We use mostly Central American beans, since they're the basis for a good espresso. We also use only 100 percent Arabica beans as opposed to Robusta, which aren't very good quality. Central American beans tend to be spicy as well as a harder bean, so they have less moisture. Beans from Java, on the other hand, are much softer.“

The Coffee Review - the world's leading coffee buying guide

„The roast adds smoky, spicy notes at the edge of carbon. Lavazza is the leading supplier of coffee to Espresso bars and cafes in Italy. Many of Lavazza's bar blends contain limited quantities of robusta coffees. This blend, aimed at consumers, consists entirely of arabica coffees.“
