„Possibility of creating classes to educate the public about various coffee topics including general coffee topics and specific topics about Hawaiian coffee. Another possibility is to have a barista competition. Also looking into culinary schools to educate about Hawaiian coffees. The desire is to look at ways to promote Hawaiian coffees on the mainland.“

„..the worst cost way too much. So the goal with Hawaiians is to quit thinking that all Hawaiian coffee is good, and to realize that only a handful of coffees deserve the high price in terms of cup quality (you can easily argue that all deserve a high price in terms of the care and labor expended in producing them). And frankly, you must pay quite a bit for the truly great small-farm Kona.“

„Kona, on the southwest coast of Hawaii, thelargest island of the Hawaiian chain, produces the most famous and the most traditional ofHawaiian coffees. Coffee has been grown in smaller quantities elsewhere on the islandssince the early days of European settlement, but encouraged by the impending closure ofsugar and pineapple plantations and the tourism-induced popularity of Hawaiian coffee, large commercial concerns now have established plantations on the islands of Kauai andMolokai. Similar efforts soon may follow on other islands.“

„ Though coffee farms are found throughout the Hawaiian islands, it is Kona coffee, from the large island of Hawaii, that is best known and always in high demand. Nature provides just the right environment for the coffee trees growing on the slopes of the active Mauna Loa volcano. Young trees are planted in black, volcanic soil so new that it often seems the farmers are planting their seedlings in rock instead of soil. Afternoon shade from tropical clouds forms a natural canopy over the trees to protect them from intense sun. Frequent island showers keep the plants nourished with just the right amount of rain.“
