„FLO is a nonprofit association of 17 national fair trade organizations that was founded in 1997 and is based in Germany. FLO gives credibility to fairtrade labels by providing an independent transparent and competent certification of the production process. FLO is one of the biggest international certification bodies, inspecting and certifying about 300 producer organizations in 32 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. FLO also supports around 500,000 small farmers and workers who participate in fairtrade, strengthening their organization and production by connecting them to resources and expertise.“

„There are three international certification programs for coffee that are mission-driven and managed by nonprofit, non-governmental groups: organic, fairtrade and sustainable. Operators of all three systems belong to the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling Alliance (ISEAL). While the certifiers have different missions, they work together through ISEAL to improve the effectiveness of voluntary social and environmental certification.“

„Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International, the world-wide umbrella organization of Fair Trade, held its second annual forum in London on September 9th-12th, 2003. Three hundred people from over sixty countries met to exchange information, review policy issues, and in particular, discuss the strategic directions for Fair Trade. The Forum brought together representatives of Fair Trade producer and commercial organizations, licensees, national Fair Trade labeling organizations such as TransFair USA, and other organizations involved in Fair Trade.“
