  „Though fair trade isn't a new approach to boost the incomes of poor growers and their workers and, in turn, create better lives for their dependents and communities, it's been thrust into the international spotlight thanks to plummeting coffee prices. Exacerbated by a glut of beans flooding the global market, the average price per pound of coffee was less than 48 cents in September, according to the International Coffee Organization. That's about one-third the price in 1997.“
