„Our Dining Halls have now switched - they offer a fair trade Rainforest Blend from Superior Coffee. In addition, our on-campus Coffeehouses - all 4 of them - carry a fair trade coffee (the same Rainforest Blend) and a fair trade Cafe Au Lait. The UCLA Medical Center, adjacent to the campus, switched their entire line of Starbucks Coffee to fair trade last year. Every major coffee outlet on campus has a fair trade option!“

„I have only tried their 5/4 blend, but that alone is enough for me to be a customer for life. There is no fee, only the coffee itself and shipping, plus you get the opportunity to sell the coffee online and spread the word like I'm doing (membership is available either free or upgraded). The website has more details. You won't regret having this wonderful coffee at home to prepare each morning (and afternoon...and night...).“

„So one reason coffees are blended in the commercial world might be the use of lower-quality coffee in the blend. Another reason might be to create a proprietary or signature blend that leads consumers to equate a particular coffee profile with a particular brand image; consumers don't often call Starbucks by the origin names used in the coffee but simply as "a cup of Starbucks" as if the dark carbony roast tastes were somehow exclusive to that brand. Coffees are also blended to attain consistency from crop year to year. This is done with major brands that do not want to be dependent on any specific origin flavor so they can source coffee from the least expensive sources.“

„"It's also benefiting from increased visibility and the growth of coffeehouses." This greater acceptance of coffee has led to a gradual reduction in coffee stocks and a resulting tight supply of coffee. The net effect is higher coffee prices. Coffee producers have yet another ally in the Association of Coffee Producing Countries (ACPC), another set of eyes and ears making sure that those crops are profitable ones.“

„Not only did this book bring back fond memories of Kansas City coffeehouses for me, it gave me lots of good ideas for my own coffeehouse. I now feature some of the beverages from the book and a couple of the desserts and my regular customers love them. Especially good are the Westport Classic Cup Scones, Pumpkin Brownies, and the shortbread.“

„The popularity of coffee also extended to the coffee shops themselves. From the 19th century onward, in addition to serving up coffee, coffeehouses were expected to provide customers with the day’s newspapers or with facilities for billiards or games of chess and cards. Coffeehouses became part of the cultivated leisure industry. “The one thing you need in a Viennese coffeehouse is time,” says one café manager.“
