French Press Brewing Instructions from Sweet Maria's (#)
„Please note: most instructions have you plunge after 4-5 minutes rather than my recommended 2.5 to 3 minutes. This is because I prefer using the finest grind possible, to a coarse chunky grind that cannot make all the coffee oils and aromas available in the brew. Finer grinds extract faster.) Hold the lid in place with one hand, and carefully start to push on the know at the top to force the plunger screen downward, pushing the grinds with it to the bottom. Take care right at first, because its easy to have the filter disc in crooked and allow a flurry of grounds to escape around it.“

„Bottom Line: The Solis Maestro handles the finer grinds but cannot produce the consistently coarse grind needed to produce excellent French press coffee.“

„If the cycle takes longer than six minutes, grind your coffee coarser. When using a French press, the coffee will need to be ground extremely coarse. Espresso requires an extremely fine grind...almost powder-like with a slight grittiness. The key to the proper espresso grind is the extraction time.“

„Grinding should always be done moments before brewing as it creates a greater surface area thus speeding up oxidation. My experience is that french press requires a coarser grind than conventional brewing, as I once created a pot of muddy mess by finely grinding the beans.“

„Each brewing method required a different grind size: Drip coffee requires a medium size grind, espresso requires a fine size grind, a French press requires the largest grind size, while the vacuum pot also requires the largest grind size. For cupping it is preferred to use a French press size.“
