„Around 3,500 families eke out a living from growing tea here, high in the hills of western Uganda. Most farmers use some of their land for raising animals and growing bananas, coffee and vegetables, any surplus of which is sold at local markets. This is an important additional source of income for farmers as it reduces their dependence on tea. Income from tea can be unreliable due to fluctuations of tea prices on the world market, and prolonged wet or dry spells which can ruin the crop.“

„Until recently, the idea of a Fairtrade breakfast was strictly for slimmers! Now that Fairtrade coffee and tea have been joined by honey, bananas and snack bars – and with orange juice hopefully coming soon – it is fast becoming a reality. Hence the theme and slogan for Fairtrade Fortnight in March: Wake up to Fairtrade! The wake-up call is already having an effect, but recent documentaries about slavery and sweatshops remind us that there is still a long way.“
