„CRS Notes: There are a lot of logos out there making a lot of claims about social and environmental responsibility. But Fair Trade is the only set of standards that guarantees farmers will earn a fair price for their coffee—enough to cover their costs of production and provide a worthy standard of living for their families. The Fair Trade Certified logo is regulated by TransFair USA, an NGO that ensures all Fair Trade Certified products in the United States are traded in compliance with the principles articulated below. When you see the Fair Trade Certified logo on your coffee, you can be assured that the farmers who grew your coffee were paid fairly and treated with dignity.“http://www.crsfairtrade.org/what_is/ sealdeal.htm - Cached

„Coffee Program Expands to More Churches -- Three large religious charities are hoping to persuade churchgoers to buy so-called fair-trade coffee, which guarantees farmers a set price for the lucrative crop that often enriches the middleman and not the small grower. Catholic Relief Services, Lutheran World Relief and World Relief said they will sign a pact on Friday with the U.S. Agency for International Development to work with small coffee farmers in Nicaragua. The groups hope to create demand for the coffee in the United States through their churches and help the farmers improve coffee quality and diversify their crops.“http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/coffee/ update.html - Cached

„RESPONSE: Admittedly, the market for Fair Trade coffee is much smaller than the production capacity of the registered cooperatives. On average, cooperatives sell only a portion of their coffee on the Fair Trade market and channel the balance through conventional markets. The cooperatives are generally able to manage the export themselves, which means the conventional sales will still be more direct than using the normal routing through local middlemen. That some of their coffee is Fair Trade, with a guaranteed price, also provides the cooperatives with some leverage in their dealings with other markets.“http://www.ineedcoffee.com/01/08/klatching/ ?page=2 - Cached
„Equal Exchange currently imports almost three million pounds of fair-trade-certified coffee in a year. P&G imports close to five hundred million pounds of coffee each year, so its projection of two-to-three million pounds of fair-trade-coffee equals less than one percent of its entire import volumea negligible quantity and a large reason for Equal Exchanges challenge. Whether or not P&G is jumping on a profitable bandwagon or simply acting out of the kindness of its corporate heart is unclear, but Equal Exchange has done the right thing by encouraging the megalithic company to ante up.“http://www.freshcup.com/jan04_unfiltered.htm - Cached

„Instead of poverty and hunger, fair trade can ensure the very survival of the family owned farms that deliver much of the world's coffee. The difference to the American consumer is mere pennies per cup of coffee, a worthwhile trade to support family farms and to maintain a stable coffee market. It's worth noting that organically grown, fair trade coffee is free of petrochemicals and is tastier than regular coffee.“http://www.virtualcoffee.com/articles/spring04/ article3.html - Cached
