Espresso Blending Techniques (INeedCoffee.com) (#)
„A deep mahogany brown. If you take it any further you get a bitter cup which contrary to what Starbucks are trying to tell us is not what good espresso is about. If you must vary the above roast then go a little lighter, but avoid the charcoal blend.“

„However, I will say this, our blends and roast profiles do hold up well, and make a great espresso using those times. As for the use of pods??? You must be joking, right? I'm not sure who came up with the idea originally, (I've only seen it in Illy), but that seems contadictory to freshly ground coffee.“

„Starbucks: Yes, Starbucks. For all their corporate crap (see my bad things about coffee, below), Starbucks must be credited for many things - showing the general public there is better coffee out there. Having stellar after sales service for products that most vendors can't (or won't) touch. Actively promoting Fair Trade coffee - they may not sell a heckuva lot of it compared to all the coffee they sell, but the fact that they promote it like crazy is awesome - it educates the public about the Coffee Crisis.“

„ Today I just found hot just how hot roasted coffee can get. You are more than aware that I have been testing the Hottop coffee roaster. I went out into the garage this morning to roast another three batches. The first was 250 grams of Yemen Mocha.“

„Most retailers do not roast or blend their coffees and are dependent on a wholesale roaster to supply espresso blends for their use. It's important to purchase fresh-roasted beans every week and buy only a week's supply at a time so they are always fresh. The roasting date must be stamped on the bag so the freshness is obvious.“
