French Beans,Anyone?
[Virtual Health Guide] Methods: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.Blanch the string beans in a large pot of boiling salted water for just four minutes.Drain immediately and immerse in a large bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. When they are cool, drain and set aside.Meanwhile, in a large bowl toss the onion and bell peppers together with two tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.Place in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for about 15 minutes, tossing with a spatula from time to time to be sure the vegetables roast evenly.Just before serving, reheat the string beans in a large saute pan drizzled with a little olive oil.Sprinkle with salt and pepper and arrange on a platter.Spoon the roasted vegetables over the string beans and serve hot or at room temperature.

My conversion to dried beans
[Slashfood] Several times a month I make a pot of beans overnight, put half back in the pot with meat and veggies for chile or beans and rice or something similar to cook during the day, then put the rest in the fridge to use later in the week in a lighter dish. The crockpot method takes a lot of the nuisance waiting time out of the process!

Organic and Fairtrade Cotton Clothes

Espresso Glasses
[Petunia Bloom] Yesterday I was still bummed about breaking my espresso shot glasses. Ryan wanted me to run to Starbucks and get him a little afternoon treat. I went to the location on Memorial and 71st. When I went through the drive-through I ordered and then asked if they sold espresso shot glasses. The employee said they would check. When I pulled up to the window, a man peeked his head out holding an espresso shot glass that they use in the store and claimed they didn’t sell any retail but they would sell me some the use in their store. I asked how much, and he said $1 per glass. OMG–First of all, that was the type of glass I wanted in the first place; Second of all, if you are to buy espresso shot glasses anywhere else for retail you are likely to pay around $10. I was so excited!! That is what I should have done in the first place- try to buy them from Starbucks. FYI if you make espresso at home!

Starbucks and Store Closings: How will it affect the experience?
[Untitled] It remains to be seen whether these closures will impact the customer experience in a negative way. If going back to the customer experience is really what the Starbucks “Transformation Agenda” is about, then one wonders where increasing the number of store closures fits in. If the stores that remain open are staffed to the proper levels so customer service doesn’t suffer, this may help the experience in the long run.

Links With Your Coffee - Monday
[onegoodmove] So what, then, is the basis for the almost-unanimously held Beltway conventional view that Democrats generally, and Barack Obama particularly, will be politically endangered unless they adopt the Bush/Cheney approach to Terrorism and National Security, which -- for some reason -- is called "moving to the Center"? There doesn't appear to be any basis for that view.

Starbucks to Quit Music Distribution, Keep Serving Coffee
[Cult of Mac - News and opinion about the Mac and ipod communities] That’s somewhat unfortunate - Starbucks always had some really good CD collections and compilations to peruse while waiting for your coffee to be prepared. [Starbucks Gossip] And, there is a way you can tell whether the coffee is getting low, and that's just by looking at the clear glass window on the urn..When the liquid in the window gets low, you move and rebrew another as a backup, or you stage it to where you can start brewing as soon as it runs out(If you are low on urns for whatever reason)..As a partner, I have started to ignore the critics, because most of them are just frustrated that Starbucks won't ever be dead, and that as soon as the recession is over, Starbucks will be positioned for success, becuase we are getting all the kinks out now. No matter what we do as a company, people will whine, because we're a big corporation, and as we all know, big corporations are bad, according the commies in the media, and the "commies" that tend to be the main people critical of the company..When the new changes start to result in more sales, and a higher stock price, you won't see Wall Street saying anything about how the coffee tastes..

Bikes, Beans & Bordeaux
[Tasty Fever!] Bordeaux had intrigued me when I passed by the little strip mall the restaurant was nestled in, or rather, going to be nestled in. At the time I had noticed it, the cafe was still in the process of “coming soon!”, so I was sort of waiting until I had seen it was open for business. Sometimes, the time it takes for a restaurant to open can be lengthy, but it didn’t seem so with Bikes, Beans & Bordeaux. I believe it was sometime earlier this week or last week that I had seen its little “Open”

Growing Borlotti Beans
[Miles Collins] That was annoying, I love borlottis, the colour of the pods look wonderful in the summer sun and the speckled beans inside are creamy and delicious fresh or dried. I always like to take a basket of them into the summerhouse where I sit and shell them with a fortifying gin and tonic for company.

French Coffee Press for the Best Tasting Coffee
[Food Life] Barrel. It was a great press and made delicious coffee. However, it had a flaw in design…glass. Yep, glass, which I broke twice. The first time, we ordered a new glass piece for about $20. Then, about a month later it broke again. That was it, I can’t be replacing the glass for $20 every month. So, I went on a search for a better press.

LAMILL COFFEE CO.
[la.foodblogging] Our very patient, sweet waitress summoned a guy in charge of coffee creation and he kindly explained that their drinks are made from precise recipes with exact ratios of milk to coffee etc. (BTW there was no attitude while explaining why they are so particular about the drinks ”¦ each person was gracious and sincere.) Much to my surprise, he finally agreed to bring the chocolate sauce and whipped cream on the side.
