„Flat burrs should be replaced after a total of 600 pounds of coffee has been ground and conical burrs should be replaced after a total of 2000 pounds of coffee has been ground. Espresso quality burr grinders can range in price from $500-$5,000.“

„More seriously, I had to dial it down to it's finest setting to get a perfect shot of espresso. The Solis is capable of perfect espresso coffee, but as the burrs wear, it may not be possible to achieve a fine enough grind for a true ristretto pour without increasing dosage of coffee used. Commercial conical burrs wear for 2000 pounds before changing, so this question must be answered over a period of time. They saved money by eliminating the clacking Italian dosing hopper in favor of a plastic collection box for the ground coffee.“

Espresso Potential Espresso Potential

Grinder - A high quality burr grinder is essential for espresso.  A conical burr grinder is preferred to flat burrs since the particle size is more even, they last longer, and the coffee is not heated during the grinding process.  If the burrs become hot the aroma of the coffee will be diminished.  A conical/parallel hybrid blade is considered the best design by many coffee professionals. “
