DRINK TO YOUR HEALTH:Coffee Found to Protect against Liver Disease - National Coffee Association (#)
„James E. Everhart of the U.S. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases analyzed data from 16,000 adults surveyed in a nationwide nutrition survey, and of the 6,000 found at high risk, those who drank caffeinated beverages showed lower incidence of liver disease. The greater the caffeine consumption, the lower the risk for liver injury, even after adjusting for other risk factors such as age and cigarette smoking. Also, the findings were the same for all age, gender and ethnic groups.“

„To the Editor: Coffee consumption has been associated with a substantially lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.1 However, despite the widespread use of coffee, there are few data on the specific effects of coffee on the 2 main causes of diabetes, ie, insulin resistance and defective insulin secretion. We investigated the association between coffee consumption and both insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion in a sample of elderly Swedish men without diabetes.“
