„In fact, if enjoyment such as this is not allowed to be interpretive and creative (and even in its most technical it is) it is at that point it becomes chest-thumping and preposterous. When we talk about coffee being "chocolatey" or "winey" it is not because it tastes as if someone literally dumped Hershey’s Cocoa Power or a glass of wine in the coffee. We says this because some quality of chocolate or wine is hinted at in the very complex tastes of the cup, and we say this in respect to the other cups of coffee on the cupping table, and in respect to all our experience distinguishing and describing coffee flavor.“

„There are websites, newsgroups and books dedicated to homeroasting. Of particular interest is the Home Coffee Roasting Mailing List at Sweet Maria's . Sweet Maria's is regarded as the premier resource for the home coffee roaster. In addition to home roasting equipment, you can find a huge selection of green beans available for sale in small batches for very reasonable prices.“

„Experienced roaster/operators can use the Alpenrost to test smaller samples of green beans by doing a "manual roast." This technique will allow the roaster to roast in smaller quantities (IE: 125gr. /4oz.) rather than the “recommended 225gr. /8oz.“

„That's beyond the scope of this article, but there is a resource to help those who wish to improve upon the original design. Sweet Maria's which sells both home roasting equipment and green coffee beans has a Home Coffee Roasting Mailing List . This is an excellent resource for all home roasters, not just users of the Fresh Roast machine.“

„Blending for Branding: Another reason to blend is to create a proprietary or signature blend that leads consumers to equate a particular coffee profile with a particular brand image. Consumers don't often call Starbucks by the origin names used in the coffee but simply as "a cup of Starbucks." It is as if the dark carbony roast tastes were somehow exclusive to that brand. So blends inherently refer to the place where the coffee was bought, and create allegiance to the retail source rather than creating awareness of the true flavor-origins: the farm, the region, the cultivar, the soil, the altitude, the hard work of the farmer, etc.“
