„The machine maintainence is a breeze if you are consistent and take care of it. The Claris filter is replaced every two months and has a reminder on the top of  the filter (If you use the Claris, you do not need to decalcify the machine). The brew group is cleaned weekly (pending on use) I usally clean the screen after the dump box light comes on to be emptied. I use mostly Starbucks and Illy and the oil from Starbucks can clog a screen if you do not wipe it off every so often with a paper towel (explained in manual) Every 200 pull's or within 4 -6 months you will need to drop a self clean tablet in the bypass doser.“

„The MT500 is, as they claim, "the only coffee maker on the market with a stainless steel lined heating element, completely eliminating any contact with aluminum. It reduces the need to decalcify dramatically". I don't know about the claim "the only coffee maker", after all, plenty of full commercial machines have all steel boiler systems (even the consumer oriented Bunns do), but this is good news for you and me as someone who might use this brewer. I think it also helps with the previous point - the heat thing.“

„ Also, cleaning is quick and easy.  The machine lets me know how often to decalcify with a warning light, which I've done only twice in one year.  About once every four to six weeks (I know I should be doing this more often), I take the brew chamber out by opening up the side of the machine and give it a thorough cleaning first with the vacuum cleaner and then with a damp sponge.  The brew chamber just slides out, I give it a good wash with a sponge and water, and it is just as easy to put back in.“
