Amazon.com: Books: Cuban Fire: The Story of Salsa and Latin Jazz (Bayou Press)
(#)
„Sections on musical roots, the 1940s and 1950s ("The golden age of Cuban music"), the 1970s to today, and more describe the development of distinct genres like the rumba, conga, and pachanga in Cuba, as well as in expatriate communities in the United States and Puerto Rico. Other recent excellent books on Cuban music include Sue Steward's Musica!: The Rhythm of Latin America; Salsa, Rumba, Merengue, and More, which is more of a coffee-table book (but with a good discography) and doesn't quite match Cuban Fire's scholarly, sequential style. Scott Yanow's Afro-Cuban Jazz is reasonably scholarly, but the scope is not as broad. Cuban Fire occupies the middle ground between those two otherwise terrific books and is the one to choose if you can't afford all three.“http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/asin/0826465668/ref=nosim/ planet-20 - Cached
Tea & Coffee 09/01 - Cuba: A Once-Proud Coffee Industry Falls On Hard Times (Cont)
(#)
„In February 1999, a group of coffee producers and importers from 15 countries met in Havana to evaluate the Cuban coffee industry and discuss ways to boost production. At that time, the Castro government vowed to boost production to 45,360 tons per year, though it’s still unclear over what time period this is supposed to happen. Observers say the goal seems highly unlikely, considering the disastrous prices on the world coffee market this year, not to mention the enormous investments Cuba would need to achieve such an increase - and the fact that the U.S. market, the world’s largest, remains closed to Cuba.“http://www.teaandcoffee.net/0901/special2.htm - Cached

Café Cubano (Cuban Coffee) (INeedCoffee.com)
(#)
„At any time of day or night at the countless little Cuban restaurants that dot Miami, people line up for "jolts" of café cubano served in thimble-sized paper cups. Cuban coffee is served at the end of a meal in tacitas that are smaller than demitasse cups. The old-fashioned way to make café cubano is in a pot on the stove, though the truth is that Cubans in this country make their coffee in Italian espresso makers.“http://www.ineedcoffee.com/99/08/cubano/ - Cached

„we whisk you away to the exotic island of Cuba, where something sweet was happening. I don't usually take my coffee with sugar, but Cuban style coffee is sweet times ten, and so good. I won't go into the exact recipe here, but here are the basics: Get ready a mixing bowl with a lot of sugar in it and a wire whisk. When the first drops of coffee come out of the stem, (hey that looks much like crema,) pour this into the sugar.“http://www.coffeegeek.com/reviews/vacpots/moka_pots/fitzcarraldo/ 1387 - Cached
Tea & Coffee 09/01 - Cuba: A Once-Proud Coffee Industry Falls On Hard Times
(#)
„Yet throughout the latter half of the 19th century, the Cuban coffee sector went through some dramatic ups and downs, and by 1877, only 192 coffee plantations were in production, down from 2,067 only 50 years earlier. This was partly due to disruptions caused by Cuba’s battle for independence against the Spanish colonizers. Yet by 1895, production was once again up, and in that year, 153,800 quintales were exported.“http://www.teaandcoffee.net/0901/special.htm - Cached
